Organizing and Enjoying Puget Sound
Two months after my last day of work, we were 100% moved out of the house and it had been cleaned, staged and listed for sale. Just a little under a week ago, we reviewed offers and accepted one and Friday morning we took off for south Puget Sound planning to pass through Tacoma Narrows at slack current. We got there on time but had to motor most of the way due to lack of wind. We went to our old favorite Penrose Point State Park and got the last available mooring ball which meant we did not have to anchor. We decided to stay there three full nights as we could see from the number of boats anchoring around us that other potential south Sound moorages would probably be even more busy.
It was nice to just relax on the boat and go ashore with dinghy and SUP for a few days while getting more experience with the newly reorganized boat galley and best ways to store food and equipment. We spent monday night at Quartermaster Harbor between Vashon and Maury. We were the only boat at anchor in the last part of hte harbor though there were a few over by Dockton.
When we initially got out of the house there were things all over the boat but in just a few days I started to organize it all so that when we had a surveyor out at the request of a new insurer’s underwriting process, it was already ship-shape.
There is really not a lot to this post other than sharing some pictures from our latest cruise and some of our organizational tricks (the squar-ish tubs that Costco sells nuts in are great for boat storage, though I wouldn’t store food in them for fear of dampness as I don’t find them to be air-tight) and the new silverware caddy I made so the former silverware drawer could be devoted to spices.
Tomorrow we will head up to Port Townsend for the weekend as the Coho Ho Ho rally group has a meet up and rigging field trip on Saturday and Sunday. It will be nice to finally meet some of those folks who are also planning to “turn left” this summer.
Deploy the hammock on the foredeck! Motoring along… no wind. Some friends who recently moved aboard. Getting the propane grill ready Side-boarding ladder entry after SUP to shore At sunset many party boats already cleared out but a few stayed overnight. South Sound cruises mean being in easy view of Rainier all day if the weather is good.
Congrats selling your house and getting underway. Hopefully Rachel will be able to leverage her GLM skills on the water 😉
