San Juan Islands trip photos Voyages of Pasargada Posted on July 30, 2021 by RachelJuly 30, 2021 Here are some photos from the latest two week trip we took to the San Juan islands. We’re tied up at the second float in Cornet Bay, Deception Pass State Park marina. View of Deception Pass bridge from Deception Pass State Park. Interesting plants found in Deception Pass State Park. Second time we’ve gone through Deception Pass. Even though we timed for slack we still saw some surge in currents. Great view of Mount Baker. Passing a state ferry as we head through Thatcher Pass on our way to Lopez Island. Lagoon at Spencer Spit, Lopez Island Kayak rental service at Spencer Spit, Lopez Island. Heavy winds were amplified by Orcas Island mountains as we going through President Channel. What boating is like around here in July – not particularly warm. Map of Sucia Island. View toward Fox Point as we hiked the Ev Henry Point trail on Sucia Island. Looking southwest from Ev Henry Point trail on Sucia Island. Up high above water. A view of a sailboat from Ev Henry Point trail. Canadian Geese taking off from Fox Cove, Sucia Island. A heron exploring low tide in Fox Cove, Sucia Island. Exploring the China Caves on Sucia Island. Part of Shallow Bay where we anchored for two nights at Sucia Island. A madrona tree watches over the tidepools and eroded cliffs near Shallow Bay, Sucia Island. More fascinating erosion near Echo Bay, Sucia Island. Sea anemone and barnacles in a tide pool, Sucia Island. Hiking from Prevost Harbor to the treasure chest at the one room schoolhouse on Stuart Island. A view of Pasargada from our dinghy tour of Shallow Bay, Sucia Island. Plaque commemorating boaters’ efforts to create the Sucia Island State Park. How shallow is Shallow Bay, Sucia Island? To go ashore we often rowed the last bit so the dinghy motor wouldn’t catch. The red and green channel markers facing out of Shallow Bay, Sucia Island. Yes, it’s a somewhat narrow channel so it’s good it is well marked as you could run aground if you try to enter the bay not going between the marks. Sunset in Shallow Bay, Sucia Island. Reflected sunset in Shallow Bay makes the cliffs and “ghost forest” glow pink. Dock at Westcott Bay Oyster company, San Juan Island. We anchored in Garrison Bay after spending a night at Roche Harbor marina. The final leg back to Seattle was from an anchorage in from Port Ludlow. Since we were back in Puget Sound, it was of course windless, drizzly, almost foggy and somewhat chilly.
