Ready to leave Puget Sound!
We’re now tied up at Port Townsend’s Boat Haven marina for our final night in a marina in Puget Sound. We expect our next night at a marina to be in Sausalito, CA sometime next week. Two of our three crew have joined us and a third will join this afternoon so that there will be five of us on board ready to face the Pacific Ocean.
In a call with our weather router yesterday we learned that we should expect pretty strong winds starting at the border between Oregon and California and will probably be able to sail most of the way other than our day tomorrow in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The current plan is to anchor in Neah Bay tomorrow night and then head out to the ocean Thursday morning. We will check on the weather again later today and later tomorrow to make sure the plan still makes sense.
I’d write more but it all feels a bit overwhelming and I have some last minute provisioning of fresh foods to do before we take off. Stay tuned here or on the PredictWind tracker page for short updates from our trip.
Here are a few pictures of the 2021 Coho Ho Ho fleet shirt, our mainsail with the Coho Ho Ho burgee flying below the spreader, and our boat resting in Boat Haven before the big trip.
Have fun out there and stay safe. Have you read two years before the mast? Great history lesson when sailing the west coast.
